The World Cup brings players and countries together in many ways, players come from all around to construct a winning team.  This year the USA had five German-American players and several other players with mixed heritage.  This is a common trend throughout teams that have united players in a unique way.

most-discussed sports game on Twitter, ever!

Twitter is not the only social medium that has been reaping the benefits of the World Cup. As of June 30, prior to the quarterfinalsFacebook found 1 billion posts, comments and likes linked with the World Cup.  During the Brasil vs. Germany game, Facebook broke a record with 200 million posts, shares, comments and likes associated with the game.

Truly Connecting the World:

According to Adobe's study, it was found that Americans represent only 8% of worldwide buzz leading up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Not only isn't America leading the hype, we are finding the phrase “World Cup” alone generated 19 million social mentions since June 2013 with a range of 196 countries, crushing both the Super Bowl and Olympics media records.
